WHY ACCA?
Knowledge of basic accounting principles is essential to a professional in any field. Pursuing ACCA –the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants- for professional accountancy is ideal as it is the largest and fastest-growing accountancy body.

WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS?
If you are above 18years and have qualified with a mean grade of C in KCSE with grades C in Mathematics and English then you qualify through the Professional Route.
If you did not attain the minimum grades but are above 21 years then you can qualify through the Mature Students Entry route.
WHAT CAN I DO... I HAVE NOT YET REACHED 21 YEARS AND WOULD LIKE TO STUDY ACCA BUT GOT C- IN MATHS.
The alternative routes you can take are:
1. Study the technician’s course from ACCA also called CAT which stands for Certified Accountants Technician.
2. Attempt and pass the ABE (Association of Business Executives) Certificate level course in Business Management and then qualify for ACCA.
WHAT IS THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE?
The ACCA has fixed deadlines for initial student registration and exam registration.
For December exams: Initial student registration deadline is August 15th. Exam registration deadline is October 15th.
For January exams: Initial student registration deadline is December 31st. Exam registration deadline is March 15th.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE ACCA?
ACCA consists of 14 papers: Part 1 (Knowledge) 3 Papers: F3 - Financial Accounting F2 - Management Accounting F1 - Accountant Business
Part 3 (Professional) 5 Papers, 3 Core Papers: P3 - Business Analysis P2 - Corporate Reporting P1 - Advanced Performance Management P4 - Advanced Financial Management Option Papers (choose any two) P7 - Advanced Audit & Assurance P6 - Advanced Taxation P5 - Advanced Performance Management Maximum papers an individual can sit for is 4 papers per seating hence the minimum time is going to be 4 semesters (exams are held in June and December) and the maximum duration allowed can extend to even 10 years!
WHAT IS CAT?
CAT – Certified Accountants Technicians course is the foundation course for the ACCA professional course. It consists of 10 papers which enables a student to have a firm standing with the basic accounting principles to be capable to sit for the ACCA professional course.
HOW DO I REGISTER FOR ACCA / CAT COURSES?
Registration with the ACCA body involves filling up of the ACCA/ CAT forms, providing copies of the KCSE result slip (if pursuing the ACCA via Professional Entry Route), copy of the birth certificate/ national identification card, copies of any other courses pursued, and the Bank Draft in GBP of the Initial Registration fees.
The reply from ACCA takes six to eight weeks and the registration pack includes besides magazines and newsletters from ACCA, a registration card, your registration number with the pass code for My ACCA portal on the website, www.accaglobal.com.
WHAT IS ABE? HOW WILL IT HELP ME?
The Association of Business Executives was founded in 1973 by a group of industrialist, educationist & politicians as a non profit making institution. ABE has now more than 180 accredited colleges worldwide and many of these accept holders of ABE diplomas onto the second year of Bachelors degree and holders of ABE Advanced Diploma onto the third year of a Bachelors degree. In Kenya, USIU (United States International University), KCA (Kenya College of Accountancy) and Egerton University recognize ABE certified courses.
So whether you have just finished your O levels or are looking to upgrade your CV with knowledge in the field of Business Management, then ABE qualification in Business Management is what you are looking for.
WHEN DO I REGISTER AND WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS? Registration for December exams ends in the first week of September while registration for the June exams ends in the first week of March.
The pre-requisite for the Diploma level in Business Management is a mean grade of C in KCSE. If a student fails to qualify for Diploma level, he can initiate with the Certificate level which will provide the student with a firm base in the principles of accounting and management.
